A Thin Place
After her mom skips town, sixteen-year-old Morgan is eager for a fresh start. What she gets instead is a crumbling house at the edge of the woods, a lonely town, and a weird blue door in the basement that opens into nothing at all. While her dad and older sister settle into Wolf Creek with ease, Morgan isn’t so lucky.
Aside from the bullying at school and the family upheaval, something else is stirring at the edge of her world. Her fascination with the blue door in the basement spirals into an obsession. Unseen figures watch from the trees of a wild forest that shouldn’t exist. The boundary between reality and something far older begins to thin. Through it all, Morgan has made a promise: I will protect the door. What she faces are forces that feed on fear, grief, and isolation.
But the greatest threat of all lies beyond the threshold of a place where the rules of her world no longer apply.
Never Too Old
A bizarre picture book threatening murder by squirrels hardly seems like the start of a serious investigation. Private investigator Alec Craftwood dismisses it as a joke–until his former partner, Olympia Lenore Dread, takes the case.
Known simply as Old, Olympia is considered the world’s greatest detective. She’s also dying of cancer.
Concerned for his friend and curious about what could possibly have drawn her to such a strange case, Alec follows Old to a secluded manor on the shores of Lake Superior. When a blizzard traps them with the other guests and a killer strikes, the absurd investigation suddenly turns deadly.
But Old seems strangely unmoved, more interested in heckling the suspects than hunting a murderer. Determined to see justice done, Alec takes the lead–and does his best to goad his legendary former partner back into action.
Trapped by the storm with a killer among them, Alec must decipher the clues, wrangle his ailing friend, and uncover the truth. But one question troubles him more than any other:
Why doesn’t this investigation feel like old times?
